You might be able to make your donation go even further, with the help of your employer.
Many companies encourage employees to donate to their favorite charities by matching their contributions. That means the impact of your gift to Day 1 Bags may be doubled or possibly tripled! Some companies even match donations made by retirees and/or spouses.
Please contact your human resources or matching gifts department to see if you can establish a matching gifts program with Day 1 Bags.
My company participates – what’s next?
Obtain a matching gift form and program guidelines from your human resources office.
Fill in the Employee section of the form and mail it to your Day 1 Bags along with your donation. Or, if you’ve made your contribution online, simply complete the form and mail it to:
Day 1 Bags
Attn: Hunter Beaton
118 Lake Front Dr
Boerne, TX 78007
We will complete the form and return it to your employer’s matching gifts office for processing. The company will send its matching donation directly to Day 1 Bags.
Some companies disburse matching gifts on a quarterly or yearly schedule. To reduce administrative expenses, Day 1 Bags will not forward a notice to employees when matching contributions are received. If you ever have a question about your company’s matching donation, contact your human resources or matching gifts department.
SCHOOL & WORKPLACE DRIVES & EVENTS
Ideas include School Supply Drives, Valentine-grams or Read-a-Thon to raise funds to donate online or via check. Or are you running a marathon or hosting a party? Reach out to friends and make your activity even more meaningful by raising funds for children in foster care. Gather friends, co-workers, church groups or social clubs to assemble hygiene kits, personalize journals and prepare colorful pictures and handwritten notes of support (“You Are Beautiful” “You Are Strong” “You Are Loved” You Are Special”). Or mobilize your school, church, or Girl / Boy Scout Troop to donate new items, then come together to write letters and to pack it up! Scouts need service projects and we can help!
We love the idea of kids helping other kids – in fact, I am still one! It is a simple and meaningful effort for a child to pack a duffle bag or backpack, collect new pajamas or assemble a personal hygiene kit, knowing that carefully chosen items will help comfort another child.
Older kids can take a leadership role. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for ideas such as sample school supply drives, hygiene kits, toiletry drives and dorm room supplies.
DONATE IN SOMEONE'S HONOR
Celebrate a special person in your life by sending a message and making a gift in their honor. If you email your dedication to email@example.com, we will send a handwritten note on by mail, including any personal message of honor, tribute or condolences that you would like to include.
BECOME A CORPORATE SPONSOR
Participate in corporate philanthropy! We welcome in-kind gifts and donations of excess inventory, personal hygiene products, sleepwear, undergarments, socks, athletic shoes, blankets, comfort items, and casual clothing for babies, children and teens. The benefits of becoming a corporate sponsor include tax deductions, positive public relations, and freeing up storage space. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if your business is interested in becoming a Corporate Sponsor.
ORGANIZE AN EVENT OR DRIVE
We are interested in partnering with individuals, social and community groups, businesses, and public and independent schools. There are many models for highly successful drives and fundraisers. It can be as simple as emailing friends and co-workers about Day 1 Bags and collecting high-priority items at your home or office (e.g. New Pajamas, Sweatpants, Athletic Shorts & Shirts, etc.). Below are just a few ideas, but we welcome your creativity!
Be sure to contact email@example.com BEFORE organizing your event regarding our current needs & capacity.
BIRTHDAYS, QUINCEANERAS AND BAR/BAT MITZVAHS
Make your birthday matter. Instead of gifts, ask for a multiple of your age in dollars. Organizing a Day 1 Bags event, drive or fundraiser also makes a meaningful service project.
HOST A PARTY
Hosting a holiday or office party, a BBQ or a family gathering? Encourage guests to bring a new item for a child or teen in foster care or a $25 gift card (e.g. Target, Amazon, HEB) in lieu of a bottle of wine or a traditional host/hostess gift.
SPREAD THE WORD
Tell your friends and family about our work. Ask your school, religious or community group to post information about Day 1 Bags for members seeking a rewarding community service project. Use social media to spread the word.
